 Casino (1995)

Camera Shots: Long duration dolly tracking shot of someone getting into a car then it explodes this creates confusion because there is no context before it. Then it fades to the presumed main character's silhouette creating a big reveal. Then a slow dolly into a low angle mid shot revealing his appearance. A standard wide shot of a group of guys showing that there are a lot of people behind the scenes. A high angle shot showing the person doing the next voice over, is a high angle shot showing he has less power. The another high angle shot of a girl the woman he loves. She was alone and showing she belongs to the main character while his side kick being surrounded showing that he is on the inside of the business. Then an areal shot of Las Vegas at night showing how big it is but also it is pitch black outside of the city limits. Then a fast dolly shot of the desert during the day showing how big it is.

Editing: Camera fades creates a slow transition between scenes to develop the characters with a voice over. A very slow fade of someone looking into a window and the long duration emphasizes how bad he messed it up.

Sound Techniques: Saying give them everything that's yours then the car explodes the voice is the only context you get but it makes it more confusing. Then the credits roll with a chorus singing in the background. Chorus in the background of main character saying how he was given one of the biggest casinos in Las Vegas makes it seem how it is important. Then his sideman explains that they messed up and it would be the last time they would get something of this value. Then he explains that the city is large but outside of the city is important for disposing bodies.

Mise en scene: Someone nicely dressed getting into car natural lighting making everything seem normal until it explodes. Then the main character wearing a nice suit resembling his status and wealth with low key lighting from the casino. More soft lighting of a group of guys at a table and the background is not visible which implies that what they are doing needs to be discrete. High lighting of the main characters, side men, then a low key lighting focused on a girl.

Production and Distribution: The budget was 52 million and it made 116 million dollars in the box office. It was produced by Universal pictures and distributed by Universal pictures. Casino was directed by Martin Scorsese and the Cinematography was by Robert Richardson.

Opening Credits description: The opening credits use a basic older font common in lots of mob and crime movies. Most of the font is centered with a computer generated background.

Awards: This movie received a Golden Globe for best actress or Sharon Stone and got an Oscar Nomination.
